After making headlines last week for his now-viral $2,000 donation request to his congregation, Bishop Marvin Winans returned to the pulpit with some surprising news: Tyler Perry has donated $100,000 to help fund Perfecting Church’s new Detroit sanctuary.
According to Hollywood Unlocked, Winans stated that Perry personally permitted for his name to be shared and stood firmly in support.
“What the devil meant for evil, God turned it around,” said Bishop Winans.
The donation came after a viral video sparked criticism when Winans allegedly rebuked a member for giving “only” $1,200 during the church’s “Day of Giving.” Winans and the member both later clarified that the moment was misunderstood. Regardless, this new influx of support has helped flip public opinion and advance the church’s mission.
