Fourth of July Cookout Costs Are Up, But $130 for 10? No Way

Planning a cookout this Fourth of July? Get ready to spend a little more than you did last year. According to new research from the Wells Fargo Agri-Food Institute, prices for classic cookout foods are on the rise.

The Institute shared a sample menu for a typical Independence Day gathering. It includes popular items like barbecue beef sliders, hot dogs, fresh fruit, a veggie platter, potato salad, apple pie, ice cream, beer, wine, soda, and sparkling water. Based on their research, the total cost to feed ten people this year is estimated at around $130.

But let’s be real—most people would agree that $130 doesn’t stretch far enough for a solid July 4th spread, especially if you’re including meats, drinks, and desserts. Just buying enough meat for grilling, sides, drinks, and disposable plates and cups can easily push you past that number. And don’t forget extra costs like charcoal, condiments, or even gas if you're traveling to host or attend.

While it’s possible to shop smart and find deals, the idea of feeding ten people for just $130 feels more like a dream than a real budget. Either way, make sure to plan ahead so you can enjoy the food, fun, and fireworks stress-free.
