Michael Strahan paid tribute to veterans across the country after facing backlash over his stance during the national anthem in a special Veteran's Day broadcast on "Fox NFL Sunday."
On Monday (November 11), Strahan shared a message honoring his father, Major Gene W. Strahan, who he said served in the Army for 23 years, and other veterans in a social media post.
“Thank you to all veterans and active service members who courageously risk their lives to protect us every day,” Strahan wrote alongside photos of his father in uniform. “Your selfless service is beyond measure."
“This is my hero, it is also my father, Maj. Gene W. Strahan, Sr," he added.
“Just as I honor my father, I keep all of you in my thoughts each and every day as we would not have the safety and freedoms we cherish without you. Thank You,” the Fox Sports host said.
Strahan's post came after he made headlines for standing with his hands folded in front of him during the national anthem at Naval Base San Diego, where "Fox NFL Sunday" broadcasted its special ahead of Veteran's Day. During the anthem, Strahan's co-hosts appeared to stand with their hands over their hearts in front of dozens of military personnel.
Several social media users labeled Strahan's stance as "disrespectful," "disappointing," and "unacceptable."
Others pointed out how Strahan was simply standing quietly at attention.
"We need to stop getting so upset at every little thing," one X user tweeted.
