Half Of Millennials Are "Seeking Relief From Social Media"

A new survey shows that millennials are starting to get tired of social media. According to the New York Post, more than half of social media users between the ages of 18 and 24 say they are “seeking relief from social media."

Many people admit they spend too much time scrolling their newsfeed or browsing pictures on Instagram. 41% of respondents said they "they waste too much time on social media" while 35% felt that people were "too distracted by their online lives."

34% of young users said they permanently deleted at least one of their social media accounts, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and the dating app Tinder. While younger people are starting to move away from Facebook and Twitter, they are still using Snapchat, which offers more privacy to users.

The news is not all bad for social media companies and the brands that rely on them to drive traffic to their sites or sell products. The survey found that 65% of people follow specific brands on social media, and 43% made a purchase through a social media platform. Over half the respondents who were born after 1994 admitted that an advertisement on social media resulted in them making a purchase.

The survey was conducted by Origin, a company that focuses on consumer and brand insight.
