Google is honoring the history of hip-hop today with a special interactive Google Doodle that puts users in the DJ booth with two turntables.

Today was chosen because it is the 44th anniversary of what is believed to be the birth of hip-hop, when DJ Kool Herc hosted a party in the Bronx, New York and played only the instrumental sections of songs while his friend Coke La Rock hyped the crowd on the mic. The two O’s in the Google Doodle are turntables and users can click them for a chance to mix their own samples from legendary hip-hop tracks.
